DEFENDERS OF WILDLIFE ACTION FUND ENDORSES DENNIS SHULMAN IN NEW JERSEY'S 5TH DISTRICT
Momentum grows for Shulman while incumbent Garrett struggles to explain record
Washington, DC -- Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund today endorsed Dennis Shulman in his bid to represent New Jersey's 5th District in the US House of Representatives. Running on a platform of a cleaner, greener economy, Shulman has stated his commitment to protecting America's natural resources while his opponent struggles to explain his record of siding with the special interests.
"If he is elected, Dennis Shulman will be part of solving America's energy problems with cleaner, safer 21st century energy solutions", said Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund president, Rodger Schlickeisen. "Scott Garrett has spent his time in Congress representing the special interests, even when it meant voting against his constituents' interests. Residents of the fifth district will be able to rely on Dennis Shulman to represent their interests."
Rep. Garrett (R) scored just 20% on Defenders Action Fund's 2007 Conservation Report Card, and has a lifetime score of just 14%. He even received a score of just 20% from Republicans for Environmental Protection in 2007.
"Scott Garrett talks a good game on the environment, but when it comes down to the votes he votes the wrong way. He introduced a bill to expand the boundaries of a New Jersey National Wildlife Refuge one week, and then voted against funding to protect our public lands and wildlife two weeks later. While his bill languishes, he votes against an energy bill that would save his constituents money on energy bills," continued Schlickeisen. "And no amount of posturing can explain his vote against eliminating huge tax breaks for Big Oil.
"Dennis Shulman is poised to shake things up in Washington, and if the voters of New Jersey's 5th District decide to elect him, they will have a true champion fighting on their side."
Defenders Action Fund's endorsement of Shulman is part of its biennial Conservation Majority Project, the goal of which is to install a permanent congressional majority that will implement meaningful conservation measures nationwide. In 2006, DAF targeted 26 different House races as part of the project and will be targeting 15-20 different races this cycle.
