DEFENDERS OF WILDLIFE ACTION FUND ENDORSES GARY PETERS IN MICHIGAN'S 9TH DISTRICT

Peters backs alternative energy and next-generation cars that bring new jobs

Washington, DC -- Gary Peters today received the endorsement of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund. The former Navy Reserve Lieutenant Commander and state senator is running on a platform of building a strong, green economy that will bring new jobs to Michigan.

"Michigan's 9th District will have a true champion in Gary Peters. He will be part of realizing the green economy vision that is so desperately needed", said Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund president, Rodger Schlickeisen. "His record of service proves that he can be relied upon to represent his constituents' best interests."

Peters' support for alternative energy and next-generation cars sets him apart from his incumbent opponent Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R) who has opposed such solutions.
Knollenberg has a lifetime score of just 6% on Defenders Action Fund's Conservation Scorecard. Knollenberg even received a score of 27% from Republicans for Environmental Protection in 2007.

"Joe Knollenberg is dragging his feet on issues that we need solutions to now. Our leaders need to get serious about using clean energy from secure sources, because America can't afford any more half-hearted efforts from leaders like Knollenberg", continued Schlickeisen. "But Gary Peters is ready and willing to lead the way."

Defenders Action Fund's endorsement of Peters is part of its biennial Conservation Majority Project, the goal of which is to install a permanent congressional majority that will implement meaningful conservation measures nationwide. In 2006, DAF targeted 26 different House races as part of the project and will be targeting 15-20 different races this cycle.
