BURR'S WIN IS A LOSS FOR WILDLIFE CONSERVATION & HABITAT PRESERVATIONBurr's Staunchly Anti-Wildlife Conservation Stance Jeopardizes Decades of Senate-Sponsored Progressive Wildlife Policies Washington, D.C.-- Richard Burr's election is a step in the wrong direction for those who want to protect and preserve our nation's wildlife and wild lands, said Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund President Rodger Schlickeisen. Burr's win is a loss for anyone who cares about conservation issues, Schlickeisen stated. His total disregard for wildlife and habitat conservation jeopardize our natural heritage and the conservation legacy we leave to our children and grandchildren. As a U.S. Representative Burr had one of the worst voting records on wildlife conservation and habitat preservation, added Schlickeisen. His assault on our nation's historic wildlands was relentless. I shiver to think what he'll do in the Senate. This year marked the first time Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund was active in electoral politics. The Action Fund worked as part of the Environmental Victory Project coalition, and focused its voter persuasion activities on known conservationists in 11 states; Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. It also did a special outreach effort in Washington in support of Patty Murray. In all, the Action Fund contacted 200,000 conservation-conscious voters by mail, phone, email and canvass. Over 1.5 million personal contacts were made.
